I’m always looking for creative ways to promote political activism, and so when I saw a post on another blog mentioning the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally, I just had to check it out for myself. So last Tuesday I had myself a pint of Guinness and some good conversation with a bunch of like-minded strangers.
The name of the organization is pretty much self-explanatory. They’ll be meeting tonight (and every Tuesday) at 8 pm at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th AVE E. Alas, I cannot attend (my 7-year-old daughter hates Guinness,) but I encourage those unencumbered non-teetotalers of you to stop on by.

I prefer Columbia City Ale House on Thurday evenings. (http://www.seattlealehouses.co.....elcome.asp) It’s too small for much of a gathering however, so I’ll probably just stick with drinking with my wife. (That’s the trouble with liberals, we just have a hard time all getting together.) Also non-smoking.
For those of you with kids, Madrona Eatery and Ale House (http://www.nwbrewpage.com/wapubs/Madrona.html) always has a strong child contingent. Also quite bourgeois, but allows smoking after 9 PM.

Apparently the Montlake Alehouse has parking. We had it at Murphy’s Pub last week, but it was trivia night.
Aaron… I’m a southender, so the Columbia City Alehouse would be great for me. I know some people are talking about setting up a West Seattle chapter too, and if you can get enough people interested, I’d love a South Seattle chapter.
Maybe invite KC election officials and they can give you the latest talking points on how to explain away their latest change in the ballot crediting explanation.

Portland has their own chapter, and they meet alternate Thursdays. This Thursday is at Lucky Labrador on SE Hawthorne and 10th; 2 weeks from now there will be another meeting, site rotating and TBA.

Anyone see Rep. Jeannie Darneille (famous for using her dead father as a political pawn in the post election mess) is now proposing to have felons voting rights automatically restored at the end of their sentence? Next she will be proposing that we automatically waive all their restitution fees as well when they get out of jail. It’s a legal process to get in to jail and lose your right to vote, so why not the same in reverse? Like Hillary, Commie Libs Democrats want the felon vote. How quickly do jump to criticize the liber hollywood crowd with their 2 hour marriages, 10 divorces and 3 annual trips to rehab. Maybe his wife was a cheating bitch you have no idea why the split. It is very common for people, even good ones to get addicted to pain pills. I have a persoanl friend that had a severe problem and addiction due to many years of cronic pain, that she struggles with to this day. Does that make her a bad person Cricket? We are not talking about people that get addicted to recreational drugs becasue they need an excape from life and are screwed up. We are talking about a medical issue that can easily affect the most common of person.

Please Chris – if we were talking about your average person, I might agree. But how is Rush not extremely hypocritical with his consistent moral outrage at others who exhibit the same behavior he does.
He didn’t just get divorced once, but three times. He didn’t just get addicted to painkillers, but he went doctor shopping (which is a felony) and them demanded “privacy during this painful personal experience” – the same thing he chides others for doing.
If you’re going to be a bloviator on talk radio, you can’t expect not to get called when you pull the same BS you criticize people for.

It’s clear you don’t have the capcity to see the difference between addiction (which affects thousands of very good people every year) linked to and/or caused by a medical need to use a drug to alieve pain and addiction because you CHOOSE to use drugs recreationally for the high. These are not physically, mentally or morally equal issues. There is no point in discussing the topic with you, your hatred clouds your vision.

Here look at this: a kid grows up, broken home, no one to show him the way. He drifts going no where. Gets involved with drugs.

A succesful man, raised in a good home. Wealthy parents, silver spoon kinda guy.
Has the world handed to him on a platter, has an injury, starts taking pain medication. Starts to enjoy the high, so he looks for more and more sources to score his illegal scrips from.
See, to me, these two are equally guilty.
Actually, the more I think about it, rush is much more guilty, because he is educated, and is every day of his miserable life, criticizing everyone else for shit he was doing himself!

Addiction is addiction. To go the extreme of doctor shopping shows the addict knew of his wrongdoing and worked purposefully to continue feeding it. The one(s) who should be faulted in those sorts of cases are those around the addict who shelter that sort of behavior. The bum on the street doesn’t have that support system.
If Rush spewed his hypocrisy while on the drugs, one can excuse that as addictive behavior. It’s his subsequent behavior that makes him more contemptable than most however. Having been through the horrid ordeal of personal addiction, one would think he would be more understanding of others. Apparently not, which sinks him further than a snake’s belly.
To the subject…I see some places don’t allow children…do any allow oldsters? ;0
